Restoration & Conservation The Wittlinger Nature Preserve Stream Project
The goals of the Wittlinger Nature Preserve project were to restore critical stream habitat for the naturally reproducing trout population, reduce the amount of silt entering the Susquehanna watershed, and strengthen the relationships between CVTU and the many local conservation minded groups.

The log and rock deflector vanes stabilize and protect the streambank by directing current away from the bank, which creates slack water adjacent to the bank and dissipates the stream’s energy.
Restoration & Conservation
Our conservation objective was to take what was once a dam and return the creek to its natural state. The dam was removed over 10 years ago and what remained was a straight stream channel devoid of any structural definition. By installing a J Hook structure, log and rock deflector vanes, and strategically placing large rocks in the creek, CVTU created a more diverse stream environment.
