Join Cumberland Valley Trout Unlimited for an unforgettable day on one of the most iconic rivers in the eastern United States during our Susquehanna River Float Trip. Known for its outstanding Smallmouth Bass fishing, breathtaking scenery, and rich outdoor heritage, the Susquehanna River offers anglers a truly unique Central Pennsylvania fishing experience.

Stretching more than 440 miles from New York to the Chesapeake Bay, the Susquehanna River is one of the oldest river systems in North America and is widely regarded as one of the premier warmwater fisheries in the Mid-Atlantic. Its rocky structure, extensive ledges, shallow riffles, and deep runs provide ideal habitat for healthy populations of Smallmouth Bass and other warmwater species.

Few fishing experiences compare to floating the Susquehanna River on a summer day. Anglers can expect beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife, and the opportunity to target aggressive smallmouth bass using a variety of techniques. Whether you prefer topwater poppers, streamers, crayfish patterns, soft plastics, or conventional tackle, the Susquehanna consistently produces exciting fishing opportunities.

Our primary float plan is to launch at the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s Hoover’s Island Boat Access and take out at the PFBC Mahantango Boat Access. This stretch covers approximately 11 miles and typically requires six to eight hours to complete, depending on water levels, flow conditions, and fishing activity.

An alternate float option may be used depending on conditions. This route would begin at the PFBC Mahantango Boat Access and conclude at the PFBC Liverpool Access. This section is approximately eight miles long and generally takes five to seven hours to complete.

Both stretches offer excellent Smallmouth Bass habitat and provide anglers with the opportunity to experience some of the most productive water in the Susquehanna River system. Participants should be prepared for a full day on the water and are encouraged to bring appropriate fishing gear, sun protection, food, water, and safety equipment.

Whether you’re a dedicated bass angler, an experienced fly fisher, or simply interested in exploring one of Pennsylvania’s most famous rivers, this trip offers a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a day on the water with fellow anglers.

As with all CVTU Fishing Trips, this event is open to everyone. Trout Unlimited membership is not required, and anglers of all experience levels are welcome. Bring a friend, family member, or fishing partner and experience one of Central Pennsylvania’s premier fishing destinations.
