Stewards of the Big Spring: A Big Spring Creek fundraiser at Kings Gap
Hosted by the Big Spring Preservation Association
The Big Spring Preservation Association will host Stewards of the Big Spring: An Evening at Kings Gap on Thursday, May 7, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at the Kings Gap Mansion, 500 Kings Gap Road, Carlisle, PA 17015.
Set against the backdrop of Kings Gap’s natural beauty, this Big Spring Creek fundraiser will bring together conservationists, anglers, and community members committed to protecting one of Cumberland County’s most important coldwater resources—Big Spring Creek.
The evening will feature guest speakers, a silent auction, appetizers, refreshments, and community conversation focused on the future of the Big Spring watershed.
Why This Event Matters
This event comes at a critical time for Big Spring Creek.
A proposed 1.3-million-square-foot warehouse complex planned just uphill from the spring poses a serious risk to the groundwater that feeds Big Spring Creek, as well as nearby residential wells and Newville’s public water supply. The scale and location of the project raise significant concerns about stormwater management, groundwater recharge, and long-term water quality.
In response, the Big Spring Preservation Association has engaged legal counsel and technical experts to advocate for stronger safeguards and responsible oversight.
Proceeds from this event directly support those efforts.

Featured Speakers
David Raphael, Esq.
Environmental attorney and former Chief Counsel of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, now serving as legal counsel for the Big Spring Preservation Association.
Susan Meehan
