2025 CVTU Erie Steelhead Fishing Trip – Erie, PA

Lodging
CVTU has reserved a block of rooms at the Hampton Inn- Erie South
(8050 Old Oliver Rd. Erie, PA 16509; Phone: 814-866-6800)
Our room block includes 11 double occupancy (2 queen beds in the room) and 5 King (one king bed in the room). The block reserved for: 11/15/2025 -11/19/2025 (people can sign up for what they want, but this will accommodate those who want to arrive early and leave late).

- Rate: $123.17/night (includes tax).
- Cancel up to 72 hours before check-in; pay at checkout.
- You may also make other accommodations if preferred. The Hampton will serve as trip headquarters.
Meals
- Breakfast will be provided by the hotel.
- Group dinner on Monday evening (included in trip fee).
- Other meals on your own.
Fishing Support
We are working with local guide and author Karl Weixlman, who has been guiding the Erie Steelhead tributaries for nearly 30 years, along with two local guide colleagues (Paul Krott and Ari Hart) to provide coaching, direction, technique instruction, and more intensive support for those who have never fished for Steelhead. This isn’t a traditional guiding arrangement where you would be constantly getting support, but rather, Karl and team will help those in need and provide the entire group with guidance. Karl’s Book, “Fly Fishing Guide to Steelhead Alley” should be required reading for anyone joining us on this trip. Karl, Paul, and Ari will be with us on Monday and Tuesday for full days of fishing.
- Local experts Karl Weixlman, Paul Krott, and Ari Hart will provide group instruction and coaching (not one-on-one guiding).
- Karl is the author of Fly Fishing Guide to Steelhead Alley — highly recommended pre-trip reading. To purchase Karl’s signed book, send a check for $54.37 to Karl Weixlmann at 3203 West 13th Street, Erie PA 16505.
- Support days: Monday & Tuesday on the water.
- September CVTU meeting will feature a steelhead prep presentation by guide Ben John.
Cost & Payment
- $150 trip fee covers guide support + Monday dinner.
- $50 deposit to reserve your spot (balance due 10 days prior).
- Refunds available up to 10 days before the trip (or later if the waitlist covers your spot).
