Fly Fishing for Erie Steelhead, equipment, gear, timing, tactics, and a lot more.
Cumberland Valley Trout Unlimited is excited to welcome Ben John, Head Guide at Precision Fly and Tackle, as our featured presenter at the September Chapter Meeting. Ben will present “Fly Fishing for Erie Steelhead”, a talk covering the gear, techniques, and timing essential for chasing these powerful migratory fish. Whether you’re new to steelhead fishing or looking to refine your approach, this is a great opportunity to learn from a local expert who spends a good portion of the year targeting these incredible fish..
Ben was introduced to fly fishing and fly tying at a young age, and the passion took hold quickly. He grew up exploring the wild trout streams of south-central Pennsylvania, where he sharpened his skills chasing wild rainbows and native brook trout. His love for fly fishing deepened after college when he began volunteering with Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, where he discovered his talent for teaching and sharing the sport with others.
Today, Ben leads the Fundamentals of Tightline Nymphing classes at Precision Fly and Tackle and guides clients on some of Pennsylvania’s most legendary waters — including Falling Spring, Big Spring, Yellow Breeches, Little Juniata, Conococheague, and the Juniata River for smallmouth bass. In the colder months, he turns his focus to the Great Lakes tributaries, where he pursues steelhead with passion and precision.
CVTU’s monthly meetings are a great way to connect with fellow anglers, learn something new, and get involved in our chapter’s conservation and outreach efforts. We hope you’ll join us for this exciting and informative presentation!
