Why Supporting CVTU’s Limestoner Spring Fly Fling & Banquet Matters

The Limestoner Spring Fly Fling & Banquet is CVTU’s premier fundraising event of the year. Your participation strengthens our community, supports programs like Trout in the Classroom, and conservation work right here in South Central PA.

Proceeds raised directly support:

  • Trout in the Classroom, connecting students to conservation through hands-on learning
  • Local conservation efforts that protect cold, clean water, such as our active support of ongoing efforts to protect Big Spring Creek from nearby industrial development.
  • Stream improvement and habitat restoration projects, including recent work on the Yellow Breeches at the Wittlinger Preserve and on the Barnitz Church property.
  • Chapter activities and community outreach, including annual fly-tying courses, kids’ Intro to Fishing classes, summer camp education days, local stream cleanups, and monthly presentations by professional conservationists and angling experts.

When you register, attend, sponsor, or donate, you’re helping to protect the clean, cold waterways of South Central Pa and building the next generation of conservationists.

At Lamberton Middle School, Trout in the Classroom is being used in an autism support classroom operated by Vista Autism Services. What’s happening here is less about the setting and more about the approach.

The core Trout in the Classroom goals haven’t changed. Students are still learning about ecosystems, water chemistry, and biological development. What has changed is the pacing and the way instruction is delivered.

The Limestoner Spring Fly Fling Fishing Competition

Teams will check in on the morning of April 25 at the Stuart Park parking lot along the Yellow Breeches to pick up scoring materials. Check-in runs from 6:00–9:00 AM, and online registration is required to compete and be eligible for prizes. Remote starts are not permitted.

Limestoner Spring Fly Fling Rules and Format

Rules & Scoring

Contestants will measure and photograph all eligible fish using personal cameras or cell phones. A time and date stamp from their device will be required to have a fish eligible for points and additionally, the measuring device provided by CVTU will need to be part of the photo. Points will be awarded in correspondence with fish species, size, and relative difficulty to find and catch in the South Central Pennsylvania region. CVTU will provide you with an official score sheet.

Only one fish from each category (trout, bass, musky, etc) on your score sheet will be eligible for points. You cannot catch 50 – 8” brown trout and win.

There will be a good deal of driving during this tournament. We encourage all participants to obey local speed limits and laws. Any contestant found guilty of violating local laws during the tournament will be disqualified.

Measuring & Fish Handling

This is a catch-and-release contest. All fish will be measured wet. Please practice safe fishing handling throughout the day. Any fish measured or photographed on the ground will not be counted toward your team’s point total. Fish must be measured nose to tail using the measuring device provided by CVTU.
