CVTU Chapter Meeting – JULY
Fishing After Dark: Unlocking the Mystery of Nighttime Brown Trout with Frank Landis
What happens when the sun goes down and the river comes alive? For seasoned fly angler and guide Frank Landis, that’s when the real adventure begins.
At the Cumberland Valley Trout Unlimited Chapter Meeting in July, Frank will present “Fishing After Dark,” a deep dive into the tactics and techniques of fly fishing for predatory brown trout at night. Drawing from countless hours spent on Pennsylvania streams and beyond, Frank will share what it takes to succeed when the lights go out—and the big fish come out to play.
Based in Carlisle, PA, Frank is a professional guide with Relentless Fly Fishing and TCO Fly Shop, a full-time middle school teacher, and an active member of CVTU. Raised near Palmyra, PA, Frank has dedicated years to exploring the nuances of nocturnal trout behavior and refining methods that produce results in waters from PA to Colorado.
In his presentation, Frank will cover everything you need to know to approach a trout stream after dark:
- Tactics and presentation
- Night-specific gear and fly patterns
- Reading water and conditions at night
- Safety, strategy, and mindset
“Night fishing isn’t for everyone,” Frank says, “but it’s something that always sparks curiosity—and when done right, it can lead to some of the most memorable catches of your life.”
Whether you’re an experienced fly fisher looking to level up or just intrigued by the mysteries of the night game, this presentation will shine a light on a fascinating and underexplored side of the sport.
Don’t miss Frank Landis at the CVTU Chapter Meeting this July, where he’ll help demystify what it takes to chase trophy browns after dark.
